Crystal Sea Wallpapers
- Art, Design, Personal
I’ve been experimenting a lot with wallpapers lately. They’ve let me break out of the web design mold and try something new. This new set is an exploration of color, geometry, style and composition. I’ve posted them all up on Flickr for you get to a better look. I recommend checking out the full resolution to see the details. Alternatively you could just download the zip. Let me know which one you like best. I’m currently using Deep Sea.

Are you the guy who made those slides on the homepage of Jive Software? I really can’t believe you used a tutorial for the grass one. Not only did you use it, you didn’t even put your own style or ideas into it. How lame.

@chris - All Photoshop. I’m don’t feel they are particularly stellar as stand alone pieces but feel they are relevant to growing past some of my preconception about how to use space, texture and color.
@derek - You make an interesting point. That piece is certainly not original. I was quick to point that out when tweeting about the site updates. I didn’t want anyone to think I was putting that work out as my own.
What I think you’re missing is the context. The particular piece you’ve mentioned was an excellent solution for the problem presented. We were under a considerably tight deadline. Speed was the primary motivation and we agreed that the treatment fit our goals.
Sometimes one needs to remember not to reinvent the wheel. I have no shame in using a free resource to accomplish a successful project. With more time I’d love to have done something more original. Unfortunately the business world doesn’t always have room to placate my ego.
The slide that needs the most criticism is the middle slide - with the energy. It made sense when the primary message was speed. That changed but there wasn’t room in the timeline to change direction. Compromise was made.
I’m happiest with the red tape piece. It’s not perfect but I like the feel of it.

I downloaded the 22Mb wallpapers and I love deepsea2 and blinding. What if you convert the wallpapers from PNG to JPEG so that it will be have a lower size so that it can be easily downloaded. Does the quality will be affected if you will change it to a different format instead of PNG?

Can not downland the full Zip file. I don’t know if its my connection or some issue with the file. The wall papers look nice.

would you mind if I use the wallpaper as a background of my blog? I am planning to customize my blog on Blogger and I think the wallpaper will be a perfect match for my theme. Of course I need to resize them to fit it w/ my blog.

Thanks guys. Glad you like these. Reminds me to do more.
@Claremont Design - I love the clarity of PNGs but you’re probably right. JPGs would be a better use of bandwidth.
@David - I’m not having any issues. You might try the flickr link.
@Hectic - Go for it. I’d appreciate a link back of course. Do whatever you need. Would love to see it when you’re done.

I find the design unique and stylish. I just made it as a wallpaper on my PC but change the resolution to lessen its “weight” on my memory. Thanks for this!

These are interesting. Did you make them in Photoshop, or did you use some other app?
