My dad has always been a bit ridiculous. He revels in self-deprecating humor and it’s a trait I admire. On Sept. 11 this year he took it upon himself to drive around the small town of Hopkinsville, KY with a giant American flag tied to his scooter. He brought smiles to a lot of faces, reminding others that you don’t have to take yourself quite so seriously. In the wake of tragedy it’s good to remember that life is still full of wonderfully silly moments. Like a middle-aged IT Director on a tiny scooter with giant American Flag. I love you, dad.

Very well put. Nothing like seeing people cry and smile at the same time. I wish I had been in Hoptown to see that. Cole and I do, however, joy-ride that thing whenever we stop in to see Dad. The flag is safely and patriotically attached to the house once again.

It remind me of my dad too whom is really a great dad for me. Although he has been so serious when it comes of being a father, he always finds ways to make us laugh. I’m glad you have a dad like him.

Maybe he could paint the whole scooter in stars and stripes, that would be fun!

Your dad FTW! I love that your dad’s patriotism doesn’t mean he’s putting someone else’s down (which seems to be the standard definition these days). Not to mention doing his part to remind his fellow ‘Mercans that a waving flag need not always be associated with tears and sadness. Go Papa Sigler!
